Smith Publicity Offers Ebook Marketing Tips

Vice President, Smith Publicity

Smith Publicity advises authors on ways to boost book sales and enhance book marketing. One of these is employing a coordinated, strategic pricing strategy.

Ebook pricing strategies aren’t new to book marketing, but some authors aren't aware of them and rely on other, less effective promotional methods.”

— Marissa Rigenbrood

CHERRY HILL, NJ, U.S., December 13, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Many authors don't realize that there are innovative ways to sell eBooks through pricing.

Smith Publicity, whose authors often have eBooks in addition to printed books, advises authors on ways to boost book sales and enhance book marketing. One of these is employing a coordinated, strategic pricing strategy.

“Ebook pricing strategies aren’t new to book marketing, but some authors aren't aware of them and rely on other, less efffective promotional methods,” says Smith Publicity Vice President Marissa Eigenbrood. “Authors will occasionally say to us, ‘advertise my eBook,’ but employing an eBook pricing strategy can work much more effectively than advertising, and it doesn't cost anything.”

Unlike printed books, it’s easy to change the price of an eBook. Some experts recommend starting high to low, while others low to high.

“Finding the right price, the ‘sweet spot’ price for an eBook at which most readers purchase the book, is key,” adds Eigenbrood.

Eigenbrood explains that pricing at the higher end and then systematically dropping the price to a price of around $1 can be effective. For example, an author might start with a price of $7.99 and incrementally reduce it down to $0.99. Authors can repeat the process again, analyze sales data, and then determine the price at which the most copies of the book sold.

Once the ‘right price,’ is determined, authors can keep the eBook at that price.

Authors can also employ a low to high strategy, and reap even more benefits. Higher sales at the lower price can boost a book to bestselling status within specific categories on Amazon.

If an eBook is priced at the high end, Amazon rewards an author with a higher royalty. Pricing below a certain point reduces royalty pay. However, if authors sell more books at a lower price and receive a lower royalty, they can end up making more money than if it was a higher priced.

Amazon lists specific policies and royalties including minimum and maximum list price rules and royalty levels.

ASC Cinematographers Headline Sold-Out NYC Cinematography Event

Award-Winning Documentary, TV and Feature Film DPs Go Behind-the-Scenes

I had a great time at Sight, Sound & Story. Not only did I have a great time speaking with Snehal, but also found the other presenters fascinating, and learned a lot.”

— Cinematographer Bruce Logan, ASC

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, December 13, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Manhattan Edit Workshop, the east coast leader in training for content creators, held its annual “Sight, Sound & Story: The Art of Cinematography” symposium on December 6th at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway. Three panels featuring award-winning cinematographers discussed their craft, followed by a networking party attended by industry-leading sponsors, filmmakers, and creative production professionals. Tohm Sansani, Director, Product Management at Vimeo noted, "Sight, Sound, and Story was a fantastic event. It brought together a diverse community of video professionals and filmmakers who all share the same passion for telling exceptional stories through film."

The program this year kicked-off with documentary DPs Alan Jacobsen (“Strong Island,” “Finding 52”) and Martina Radwan (“The Final Year,” “Inventing Tomorrow”) comparing and contrasting how their methods of shooting varied and carried the tone of the films they were working on. Veteran Cinematographer Bruce Logan, ASC (“Star Wars – Episode IV: A New Hope,” “Tron,” “2001: A Space Odyssey”) took the stage for an intimate discussion on his legendary career. He recalled how he got his start working with animation on Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey”, to exploding a model of the Death Star in “Star Wars,” to shooting scenes from the groundbreaking film “Tron.” The closing panel featured acclaimed veteran Robert McLachlan, ASC, CSC (“Game of Thrones,” “Westworld,” “Ray Donovan,”) sharing his insights from some of the most watched television shows in history. He took the audience deep behind-the-scenes of “Ray Donovan” & “Westworld”; and then the complexities of shooting hundreds of extras from a massive battle scene in “Game of Thrones.” Hugo Perez, Snehal Patel, and David Leitner moderated, respectively.

Panelist Bruce Logan, ASC commented on the evening as, “I had a great time at Sight, Sound & Story. Not only did I have a great time speaking with Snehal, but also found the other presenters fascinating, and learned a lot.”

“This is a wonderful way for people interested in cinematography to get access to the masters,” shared moderator and ZEISS Sales Manager Snehal Patel. “The DPs are happy to share lessons they learned on set, and insider information about how the industry works. I learned so much from these artists. Don’t miss the next one!”

The 2018 “Sight, Sound & Story: The Art of Cinematography” sponsors included Platinum and Networking Party Sponsor ZEISS, Master Storyteller Sponsors Adorama and Vimeo; and Technology Sponsor Shutterstock.

#StandUp4HumanRights March Demands Human Rights Be Recognized

We stand here united as human rights defenders from around the world, determined to bring about freedom for all, starting with awareness of these basic human rights.”

— Erica Rodgers, National Director of Youth for Human Rights

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, UNITED STATES, December 13, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — On Human Rights Day 2018, in a world where fundamental human rights are being abused, a group of young advocates gathered together at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, to march in support of the vital necessity of immediately implementing human rights education on a global scale. Led by Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) and joined by other national and international organizations, including Peace Lights and the Pan-African Diaspora Youth Association (PADYA), the wave of passionate activists dressed in blue in support of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, marched from the Lincoln Memorial to the World War II Memorial.

The march was part of a global series of events led by Youth for Human Rights International in honor of Human Rights Day and on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the document which, if widely applied, could end human rights abuses everywhere.

“The most impactful aspect of the march was the attention to the cause. The more awareness we bring to human rights, the more people will realize how little they know about them. Once we're on the same page with that, we can start moving forward with teaching and educating our youth!” said Somalian fashion model, Soukeyna, who participated in the march. She further stated, “We develop most of our habits when we are young. If we are taught early on about the non-negotiable human rights as listed in the UDHR, we will be encouraged to stand up for what we deserve and carry those habits into adulthood.”

With the end of the Second World War and the creation of the United Nations, the international community vowed never to allow human rights atrocities to occur again. Thus, 70 years ago on December 10, 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was born listing out 30 basic human rights and starting a worldwide awareness campaign.

The United Nations launched their current human rights awareness campaign #StandUp4HumanRights in December of 2016. This year, in celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Youth for Human Rights DC and other national and international chapters have been key champions in this campaign. Erica Rodgers, the US National Director of Youth for Human Rights International and organizer of the march commented, “We stand here united as human rights defenders from around the world, determined to bring about freedom for all, starting with awareness of these basic human rights.”

About Youth for Human Rights:

Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) is a nonprofit organization with chapters around the world whose mission is to teach youth about human rights, specifically the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and inspire them to become valuable advocates for tolerance, respect and peace. YHRI teaches human rights education both in the classroom and in nontraditional educational settings such as through international summits, art series, concerts and other interactive community events. Their most recent campaign has included #KnowYour30 with the deliberate purpose of increasing awareness of the 30 human rights every person has – and how they are a part of everyday life. — Curt Surls, Employment Lawyer in California

MANHATTAN BEACH, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, December 13, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — In his most recently published article, California employment attorney Curt Surls reviews States' reactions to the Supreme Court decision in Epic Systems v. Lewis. The complete comment will be published on the Blog of Mr. Surls at https://curtsurlsblog.blogspot.com/

Several states are considering responses to Supreme Court’s recent decision in Epic System that held that individual arbitration clauses in employment contract preempts class action lawsuit. One such response is from Governor Jay Inslee of Washington, issuing Executive Order 18-03 in June of 2018 that directly mentions the Epic System decision in the preamble. Specifically, the order states “WHEREAS, the United States Supreme Court, in its recent Epic Systems Corp. v. Lewis decision, held that if employees sign an arbitration agreement requiring individual arbitration proceedings as a condition of employment, then those agreements preclude employees from pursuing a class or collective action against their employer to resolve disputes; and WHEREAS, when employers require workers to accept an arbitration clause as a condition of employment they deny workers the opportunity to seek redress for employment grievances through collective or class action in court or in arbitration, and workers are stripped of a powerful tool to level the historical imbalance between employers and employees; and WHEREAS, the Epic Systems Corp. v. Lewis decision will inevitably result in an increased difficulty in holding employers accountable for widespread practices that harm workers . . . .” The order provides that “[t]o the extent permissible under state and federal law, when making purchasing and other procurement decisions, all state executive and small cabinet agencies shall seek to contract with qualified entities and business owners that can demonstrate or will certify that their employees are not required to sign, as a condition of employment, mandatory individual arbitration clauses and class or collective action waivers.” Although the order would only cover purchases and procurement by the executive branch of the state of Washington, if other states follows suit, it could put pressure on companies seeking to do business with state governments. It will be interesting to see how much effect the executive order will have and whether any other states will follow suit.

Other states are considering a legislative approach. New York and Vermont are considering passing a law similar to California’s Private Attorneys General Act (“PAGA”). PAGA allows individuals who personally experienced a violation of a California employment law to sue on behalf of current or former employees who also experienced such violations. California Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit has both held that PAGA is not preempted by the Federal Arbitration Act. Thus, even if federal class action lawsuits are preempted by individual arbitration clauses in employment contracts, state laws such as PAGA could allow plaintiffs to pursue state class action suits. This is a developing area of the law that bears close monitoring in the future, opines Mr. Surls.

Silently transcribing during sensitive and rushed situations allows clinicians more time to focus on patient care

Industry best noise cancelling, speech recognition microphone

Accurately document patient information without being overheard by others while additionally eliminating all background noise.

Using a Stenomask eliminates the background noise in our busy workplace while simultaneously providing privacy when using speech recognition. Now there is no need for a private room or office.”

— K. Somner, B.C. Ministry of Health

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, USA, December 12, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Voice technology in healthcare is not yet the ubiquitous application that we believe it will soon become. The major concerns are patient privacy, HIPAA compliance, potentially leaving confidential information unprotected and the challenge of clear voice communication in a noisy and busy clinical setting, particularly when complex medical vocabulary is required.

Many physicians use voice technology for clinical decision support and documentation in their office or home however they are much less inclined to do so in the presence of their patients.

There is a practical and affordable solution to this problem.

Talk Technologies engineers and manufactures specialized microphones (stenomasks) that allow clinicians to use speech recognition and verbally communicate in public without anyone overhearing them. Our voice isolating technology enables private transcription and verbal communication while simultaneously eliminating all background noise.

Stenomask functions like a sound-booth only in pocket sized form, guaranteeing clear voice communications in loud and busy clinical settings.

Advantages:
• Complies with HIPAA privacy and security rules
• Decreases potential security risks and protects the privacy of individuals’ health information
• Lightweight, affordable and road worthy durability
• Compatible with all speech recognition software including Dragon medical
• No start up time or learning curve, simply plug in and go

NYSVA Expresses Concern That Suffolk County's Ban on Flavored Vapor Products Will Harm Residents

New York State Vapor Association

Former smokers may begin smoking again if flavored e-cigarette ban passes in Suffolk County, NY.

When the shops close, vapers trying to stay off cigarettes and smokers looking to quit will be left with no alternative.”

— Michael Frennier

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY, UNITED STATES, December 12, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Suffolk County Legislature is moving at breakneck speed to pass a local law prohibiting the sale of flavored vapor products. The proposal, which would only permit the sale of vapor products in tobacco, menthol, and mint flavors, will be debated in the health committee December 13, with a full vote possible as early as December 18.

New York State Vapor Association, representing 700 small, independent vape businesses statewide, submitted testimony urging the Committee to reject the ban. “Elected officials should not ignore the voices of over 10,000 Suffolk County adults who use flavored vapor products to remain smokefree,” stated Cheryl Richter, Executive Director of NYSVA.

“Flavors are vital to helping adult smokers disconnect from the taste of tobacco. Instead of bans that we know will harm adults, county legislators should focus on better enforcement of existing sales restrictions, including more policing of fake IDs, and education of parents and teenagers.”

Suffolk County’s proposal goes far beyond directives recently announced by the US Food and Drug Administration. Last month, FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb declared that flavored vapor products would only be permitted to be sold in adult-only brick and mortar locations, and online with strict age verification. Commissioner Gottlieb acknowledged that vape shops do a much better job of preventing sales to minors. He described his policy shift as “a very careful public health balance,” which will decrease availability of vapor products to youth while also still allowing adults to access safer products.

The proposed Suffolk County law would prohibit sales of these products in all retail stores countywide, including the age-restricted vapor retailers that FDA has praised for combating youth access.

NYSVA President Michael Frennier stated, "The 50-plus vape shops in Suffolk are on the front lines helping smokers switch to better lives. Flavors are used by more than two-thirds of vapers and represent between 75-85% of all sales in vape shops.”

“When the shops close, vapers trying to stay off cigarettes and smokers looking to quit will be left with no alternative,” says Frennier, who doubts retail shops will be able to survive if this ban passes.
