Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA)

Screening to be followed by Q&A with the Photographer and Co-Producer of the Documentary

LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, October 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) will host a free screening of the critically acclaimed documentary, Los Tigres del Norte at Folsom Prison, on Sunday November 17 at 4:00 p.m.

In conjunction with the screening, MOLAA will exclusively debut a special exhibition of behind-the-scenes photographs, taken by award-winning photographer Lance Dawes, of Los Tigres del Norte’s historic visit to Folsom from Friday, November 15 through Sunday, November 17. The screening on November 17 will be followed by a Q&A with Lance Dawes and the documentary’s co-producer, Zach Horowitz. The documentary captures the legendary band’s trip to Folsom Prison in 2018, 50 years after Johnny Cash’s famous concert there. More than a concert film, the documentary is a journey into the world of Latino incarceration told through the songs of Los Tigres del Norte and interviews with Latinx inmates at Folsom. It’s been called one of the best new documentaries on Netflix by the Washington Post, the New York Daily News and Buzzfeed, just to name a few. The documentary is sixty minutes long, in Spanish with English subtitles.

Los Tigres del Norte is one of the most important and popular bands in the history of Latin music. Often called “the voice of the voiceless," they have sold over 40 million albums, have had 50 #1 chart-topping singles. After five decades, the band continues to sell out concerts across the U.S. and Latin America.

The exclusive photography exhibit features the work of Lance Dawes, the only photographer allowed to accompany the band on their visit to the prison. Best known for his work as a documentary and editorial photographer, for almost thirty years Dawes has chronicled virtually every aspect of the action sports industry as well as the music and entertainment industry. His credits include Slap Magazine (which he founded and where he was the editor, art director and chief photographer), Thrasher, ESPN.com, the Washington Post, the Associated Press and Juxtapoz Magazine. His work has appeared in campaigns for Sketchers, Vans, Panasonic, Fossil Watches and Nike and many others, as well as on album covers for Universal, Warner and Atlantic Records. He has photographed everyone from the Beastie Boys to Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Clint Eastwood. His work has been included in photography exhibits around the world.

Some of the photographs included in the exhibit will be available for purchase, with all proceeds benefiting MOLAA.

There will be food trucks and a cash bar available on-site for the screening. The documentary will be screened in MOLAA’s Viva Event Center. This event is free and open to public. Rare Nintendo Pokémon "Pikachu Illustrator" promotional card soars to a record $224,250 at Weiss Auctions, October 23rd

Nintendo Pokemon “Pikachu Illustrator” trainer promo hologram card graded Mint 9 condition, given to a winner at the 1998 CoroCoro Comic Illustration contest in Japan ($224,250).

Fabulous production cel of Snow White, shown at a well with five doves (two of which have gotten loose), on a Courvoisier background, 8 ½ inches by 8 ½ inches ($4,400).

Scarce original production cel from the 1935 Disney film The Band Playing – the very first Mickey Mouse color short measuring 5 inches by 6 ½ inches ($11,865).

Complete five-volume set of Science Fiction Fanzine #1-5, including The Reign of Superman (1933-1934), a highly coveted Superman rarity by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster ($44,070).

Original Sunday comic page for Buster Brown and Tige by Richard Outcault (1863-1928), dated Sept. 24, 1916, watercolor and ink over graphite with hand-colored highlights ($7,800).

The trainer promotional hologram trading card, graded in Mint 9 condition, was presented to a winner at the 1998 CoroCoro Comic illustration contest in Japan.

LYNBROOK, NY, UNITED STATES, October 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — A Nintendo Pokémon “Pikachu Illustrator” trainer promotional hologram trading card, graded in Mint 9 condition and given to a winner at the 1998 CoroCoro Comic illustration contest in Japan, soared to $224,250 (a new world auction record) at an auction held October 23rd by Weiss Auctions, online and in firm’s Lynbrook gallery at 74 Merrick Road.

Fan-favorite Pikachu starred on what is inarguably the most valuable and rarest Pokémon card in the world, accounting for the dizzying selling price. Although the technical name for the card is "Pokémon Illustrator", it is known as "Pikachu Illustrator" due to the image. What makes it so rare is that it wasn’t sold but awarded as a prize at the illustration contest thru CoroCoro Comic.

The card was created specifically for the contest. In the January 1998 issue, three first place winners won a copy of the card, as did another 20 second place winners. With cards awarded in two more contests that year, there were a maximum of 39 copies released. It isn’t known exactly how many surviving copies are still around; however, only 10 PSA certified copies are known.

The card sold is the only card in the long-running collectible card game series to say "Illustrator" at the top of a trainer card, and the only one to bear the pen symbol in the bottom right corner. The artwork is by Japanese illustrator Atsuko Nishida. The card carried a pre-sale estimate of $125,000-$175,000, which some believed was high, but determined bidders thought otherwise.

The rest of the auction had 500 interesting, fresh-to-the-market lots, in categories that included sports, cards, comic books, comic art, animation, Disney memorabilia and more. The runner-up top lot was a genuine Superman rarity: the complete five-volume set of Science Fiction Fanzine #1-5, including The Reign of Superman (1933-1934), by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster ($44,070).

It was just the third time that Weiss Auctions had ever offered the set in its entirety. Two of the issues were signed by Siegel, one as “Jerome Siegel” in blue pencil on an editorial page and one as part of a pencil note to a subscriber. Some copies had pages that were in the wrong order due to the amateurish nature of the printing from Siegel and Schuster, still in high school at the time.

Following are additional highlights from the auction. Internet bidding was facilitated by Proxibid.com and Invaluable.com. All prices quoted include the buyer’s premium.

A scarce original production cel from the 1935 Disney film The Band Playing – the very first Mickey Mouse color short – finished at $11,865. The cel measured 5 inches by 6 ½ inches and had a great image of Mickey leading the band. It was one of many Disney lots in the auction.

An eight-page pen-and-ink Batman story done in 1994 by the illustrator Joe Kubert (back-dated 1996, DC Publications, issue unknown) realized $9,000. The story was accompanied by photo-copies of these and other pages and came out of Kubert’s estate, as were other items in the sale.

An original Sunday comic page for Buster Brown and Tige by Richard Outcault (1863-1928), dated Sept. 24, 1916, with hand-colored highlights, changed hands for $7,800. The watercolor and ink over graphite comic page, quite rare and desirable, measured 20 inches by 21 inches.

Another Disney lot that had paddles wagging was a fabulous production cel for Snow White, shown at a well with five doves (two of which have gotten loose), on a Courvoisier background. The cel – 8 ½ inches square – sold within its $3,000-$5,000 estimate to hammer for $4,400.

Weiss Auctions will have what is shaping up to be one of its most important auction events ever on Thursday, November 21st, online and in the Lynbrook gallery. The estate sale will feature an important early 18th century sterling silver tankard bearing the mark of “Bartholomew Le Roux”, a 27-inch Tiffany Studios linen fold lamp and a large selection of linen-backed vintage posters.

Also sold will be a collection of works from New England School artists; important artworks by Joan Miro and Marc Chagall; an oil painting by Jean Dufy; a large illustration painting by James Montgomery Flagg; a large selection of better Nippon pieces; bronzes and porcelains; and estate jewelry items ordered sold on behalf of the New York and Bronx Public Administrators Offices.

Weiss Auctions is always accepting quality consignments for future auctions. To consign an item, estate or a collection, you may call them at (516) 594-0731; or, you can send an e-mail to Philip Weiss at Phil@WeissAuctions.com. GfK will nurture auto tech innovation in hackathon competition for undergraduates

Student teams will combine marketing, data science as they vie for $5,000 prize

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, October 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — According to GfK AutoMobility, more than half of those who intend to buy a new car say that in-vehicle technology could affect their selection. To give aspiring data scientists and marketer researchers hands-on experience with this fast-growing category, GfK is challenging undergraduate teams to create business plans – from design to marketing – for their own “smart car” innovations.

In the second NextGen Data Science Hackathon Competition, GfK will award a $5,000 grand prize to the team that develops and presents the most convincing plan for a new in-car device or service.

Watch a video about the NextGen Data Science Hackathon Competition

During a 10-day hackathon in March, GfK will give students access to data sets from a variety of sources, encouraging the teams to use these and other insights in creating 5-minute presentations for their ideas. GfK insights experts, as well as marketers and researchers from client companies, will act as mentors and, ultimately, select the winning team.

Interested students should contact marketing@gfk.com

Before the hackathon, students — working individually or in groups – can collect insights to focus their projects and provide background for their final presentations. Undergraduate students in any major can take part in the event, working from any location.

“Smart technology has revolutionized the auto marketplace – from in-car entertainment systems to self-driving vehicles – and we know there is much more to come,” said Tom Neri, Commercial Director at GfK North America and leader of its AutoMobility research team. “The potential for breakthrough innovation is still huge, and we know that the NextGen teams will bring a powerful curiosity and creativity to this category. We also see this as a valuable opportunity to connect today’s product designers and marketers with the next wave of innovative thinkers.”

The NextGen Competition began in 2011 with a focus on traditional research methods and goals. Over the years, the contest has evolved to reflect the changing toolkit and role of market researchers and data scientists. In 2018, GfK made a hackathon the centerpiece of the competition, with a team from the College of Staten Island (City University of New York) taking first place for its innovative development and marketing plan for a new smart speaker.

Chaim Steinberger Speaks at the ABA Family Law Section 2019 Fall Conference in Austin, TX: Divorce Without Destruction

New York Attorney Chaim Steinberger

New York Attorney Chaim Steinberger

New York attorney Chaim Steinberger recently spoke at the American Bar Association Family Law Section 2019 Fall Conference in Austin, TX.

People don’t fight because they’re nasty and vicious. People fight because they’re hurt, angry, and most importantly, afraid.”

— Attorney Chaim Steinberger

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, October 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Attorney Chaim Steinberger of the New York-based law firm Chaim Steinberger, P.C. recently spoke at the American Bar Association Family Law Section 2019 Fall Conference in Austin, TX. His presentation can be seen here.

Attorney Steinberger’s message discussed the basic psychological imperatives that often drive good people to fight unnecessarily during a divorce. He said:

“People don’t fight because they’re nasty and vicious. People fight because they’re hurt, angry, and most importantly, afraid. When people are scared, their autonomic nervous system (the amygdala and related circuitry–the body’s survival mechanism), takes over, and focuses them intensely on the perceived threat, ignoring all else. That means they get ‘tunnel vision,’ sometimes focusing on issues that seem important instead of the ones that are, and unable to see the real-world solutions that might be right in front of them. That's why it's so much easier for us to advise others and why, when we’re faced with the same situation, we forget to take our own advice.”

Mr. Steinberger outlined what lawyers can do for their clients so that the clients' transition out of ‘survival mode,’ feel safe, and become capable of exploring and considering suitable settlement options for their immediate and long-term benefit, both for themselves and their loved ones.

About Divorce Attorney Chaim Steinberger

After graduating at the top of his class, clerking for a federal judge, and working at some of the most prestigious law firms in the country, Attorney Steinberger dedicated his life to practicing matrimonial, divorce, and family law with dignity and integrity, helping his clients achieve better outcomes through the use of advanced mediation and negotiation techniques and applying game theory and military strategy to family problems. He now uses those skills to help his clients obtain the outcomes they want with a minimum of pain, angst, and expense.

Attorney Steinberger has been characterized a thought-leader and is well-respected by his colleagues on the bench and bar. The New York Law Journal published his article “Divorce Without Destruction,” and the American Bar Association his article “Make More Money by Being More Ethical.” He currently chairs the Custody Committee of the American Bar Association Family Law Section and serves on the Executive Committee of the New York State Bar Association Family Law Section among other bar leadership positions. Stephen Odzer Talks About How to Get Involved in Politics

Stephen Odzer Henderson

HENDERSON, NV, UNITED STATES, October 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Aside from being the CEO of YBT Industries of Henderson, NV, Stephen Odzer would consider likes to stay involved in politics. He says, “ I am very involved with the Republican Party and Republican Jewish Committee.” As a supporter of the Republican Party and Republican Jewish Committee, Stephen Odzer likes to encourage everyone to get involved with their local politics. He knows that not many people understand how to get started, so he considers it a joy to encourage others to get into politics. Below, Stephen Odzer talks about how to get involved in politics for beginners.

Volunteer for a Local Political Campaign
Stephen Odzer says the best way to get started in politics is by volunteering for a local political campaign. Volunteers who want to learn how the system works will benefit from learning about it in the headquarters of a campaign. Some volunteers help with tasks such as registering new voters, making phone calls, and more.

Join a Political Party
Although Stephen Odzer proudly belongs to the Republican Party, he encourages individuals to join the political party of their choice. The best way to join a party is to get involved and learn who the candidates running for local offices are.

Donate Money to Political Candidates
According to Stephen Odzer, once people find a candidate they believe in, the best way to support them is by donating money to their campaign. They don’t have to donate a lot of money, but even a little bit goes a long way. Those who donate money to their candidates will get access to their campaigns. Most candidates will acknowledge even the smallest of donations.

Watch the News and Stay Updated
One of the best ways to stay involved with politics is to pay attention to the news, according to Stephen Odzer. Learning about current events from reliable sources will help people understand what is at stake and give them a voice on issues that matter. For example, if there is a municipal issue, learning about it encourages people to take action to fix it. Learning about politics by watching the news also allows people to have educated debates.

Stephen Odzer also supports agencies that hire people with disabilities, the AHRC Foundation, Bris Avrohom, Jewish and Non-Jewish causes, and Arab/Jewish business cooperation. When he’s not supporting important causes and political affairs, Stephen Odzer is busy running around after his eight grandchildren. Stephen Odzer also likes to spend time with his seven children, especially at a New York Yankees game.

BURLINGTON, VERMONT, USA, October 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — NAS Investment Solutions (NASIS), a national sponsor of high-quality real estate investment properties, has introduced a new opportunity available to accredited investors. The investment opportunity is highlighted by a projected 6.51% annual cash-on-cash return from a property occupied by an investment grade tenant, on a 16.5-year absolute triple net (NNN) lease.

Built in 2010, the freestanding retail property is located in Burlington, Vermont. The 26,340 square-foot, 2-story building is leased to one of the oldest and largest pharmacy store chains in the nation and features a pharmacy drive thru window.

The Property serves a densely populated area, with over 55,000 residents in a 3-mile radius. The local area is saturated with office and retail space with a 100% occupancy rate within a 1-mile radius from the Property. National Asset Services (NAS), one of the Nation’s leading commercial real estate companies, will assume responsibilities for asset management and property management upon acquisition by NAS Investment Solutions.

SinglePoint Launches Wholly Owned Brand 1606 Original Hemp

1606 Original Hemp Gold Box Finished

1606 Original Hemp Gold Box Finished

SinglePoint introduces – 1606 Original Hemp

SinglePoint Inc. (OTCQB:SING)

UNITED STATES, October 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — SinglePoint Inc. OTCQB:SING – SinglePoint has launched into the smokable hemp market. Releasing its wholly owned brand 1606 Original Hemp. The brand will carry a variety of smokable hemp products. Recently the company presented at NACS 2019 and had a phenomenal response driving the create of 1606. To date the company has shipped order to convenience store owners with a collective 250 doors and has interested from over 100 parties that collectively have over 15,000 doors.

The name derives from the first hemp crop planted in 1606 in North America. SinglePoint has planned to expand the brand quickly through retail, distribution, and a new ecommerce site currently in development.

In today’s world, hemp is becoming very popular. The use of hemp has evolved into diverse products such as lotions, oils, food, beverages, and cigarettes. Smokable hemp is a developing trend, but is it a good way to consume the cannabinoid? Here’s what you need to know:

Hemp vs. Marijuana
Hemp and marijuana are both part of the cannabis family. However, hemp will not get you high unlike marijuana, which is known for its psychoactive effects. Marijuana has high levels of THC, containing anywhere from 5%-35% whereas hemp has less than 0.3% THC. Hemp contains high cannabidiol (CBD) content which is not psychoactive. Smoking hemp is a positive alternative to marijuana, ”You get the same taste, the same psychological feeling of smoking a joint, but without the high.”

Replacing Tobacco
Pure American Hemp cigarettes (link) are nicotine and tobacco free. Some research suggests that smoking hemp cigarettes could be a potential tool to replace tobacco and nicotine addictions. According to a Brightfield Group survey of more than 5,000 CBD users in the U.S.:
• 24% have used it to help quit smoking.
• Quitters are often replacing cigarettes with
either smokable hemp or vaping.
• 41% of quitters have entirely replaced
tobacco with hemp CBD.
Google trends reveals over the last year that hemp was researched more often than tobacco and nicotine.
Initial Research
Initial research has shown CBDs ability to reduce cigarette consumption. Researchers at University College London conducted a study of 24 smokers. Each were given an inhaler with CBD or placebo. For one week they were to use the inhaler when they had the urge to smoke. Those with placebo had no difference in cigarettes smoked, those with the CBD inhaler significantly reduced the number of cigarettes smoked by 40%.

The Alternative Market
The Alternative Market has continued to grow drastically, 35%, from 2019 to 2018 while cigarettes stayed steady at 3.1%. With the addition of hemp cigarettes and the recent vape scare, many assume the alternative market will continue growing as people look for a “healthier for you” alternative to cigarettes.

The Future
BDS Analytics and Arcview Market Research projects that the collective market for CBD sales in the U.S. will surpass $20 billion by 2024 while New York-based investment bank Cowen & Co, estimates that the market could pull in $15 billion by 2025. The smokable hemp market currently represents approximately 2% of the overall CBD market, but with a 250% growth from 2017 to 2018, Brightfield Group, a Chicago-based cannabis market research firm, identifies dried and smokable hemp flowers as one of the fastest-growing segments of the CBD market.

Ugly Christmas Sweaters supporting the impeachment of President Trump will be 2019 breakout items according to the website, Ugly Christmas Sweater Ideas.

Trump ugly Christmas sweaters were hot the last two years but this year we see them going from parody to protest.”

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES, October 31, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — If you were hoping for peace and harmony in the 2019 holiday season, then Ugly Christmas Sweater Ideas says you are going to be disappointed. The website, which tracks industry trends says impeachment ugly Christmas sweater interest is spiking early in the holiday season.

In 2017 and 2018 funny Trump Christmas Sweaters were very popular. But this year things are going from parody to protest. We think people who may have made fun of Trump in the past will wear impeachment sweaters, t-shirts and sweatshirts this year to show their support for impeaching the President, writes the site. Trump ugly Christmas sweaters have been around since the 2016 election.

The increasing likelihood of impeachment proceedings is the top news story of the moment. And with half the country currently supporting impeachment, the site says interest will last throughout the holidays. Sales leading-indicators project that interest isn’t going to wane, and this is the breakout subject for this Season, according to the site.

Ironically, the Ugly Christmas sweater trend started off lighthearted and only became more political and controversial later. According to the site, it started in the early 2000s as hip revelers in Vancouver, Canada began holding parties where guests were encouraged to wear the tackiest Christmas sweaters they could find. According to Ugly Christmas Sweater Ideas, this was a way to poke some fun at some of the tackier, commercial elements of Christmas but also tapped into nostalgia.

Uncool became cool. Young people associated ugly sweaters with TV sitcom dads from the 80s and 90s who wore them, often with no explanation. This became a common trope as fathers and father figures on shows including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, The Cosby Show, Family Matters and Growing Pains wore ugly sweaters.

According to Ugly Christmas Sweater Ideas, one of the fastest growing segments of the market covers inappropriate topics. Naughty ugly Christmas sweaters include references to potty humor, religion and, of course politics.

We saw the market expand from tacky sweaters with vintage style designs to outright gaudy ones with garland, tinsel and Christmas decorations attached to them. Over the last several years we have seen more and more holiday sweaters trying to push the envelope of good taste and decorum more, observes the site. Increasingly, wearers are making a statement about their views or values.

Ugly Christmas Sweater Ideas says people should shop early for hotter segments like impeachment sweaters. Manufacturers and retailers can have difficulty projecting demand so they may run out of certain designs sizes early.

The site says that Ugly Christmas sweaters are great conversation starters for parties. They offer advice on hosting ugly Christmas sweater parties and recently posted suggestions for winning ugly Christmas sweater contests, which are sometimes held at those parties.

But the site warns people to use good judgement about where they wear ones with controversial themes. The site says to expect stories about people wearing Trump sweaters to work or family gatherings, causing arguments. With slogans like "All I want for Christmas is Impeachment," these items will likely provoke conversations, at least. The site offers advice on what to buy for different holiday gatherings with more detailed advice on dressing for office holiday parties.
