For Immediate Release: Montgomery County Completes Annual Point-in-Time Count County Executive Commends Efforts to Support Vulnerable Residents

FONDA, N.Y. --Montgomery County Executive Pete Vroman announced today the successful completion of this year’s Point-in-Time (PIT) Count conducted by the Department of Social Services.

The annual initiative provides vital data on homelessness in Montgomery County by tracking the number of all sheltered and unsheltered homeless individuals. The count helps determine funding needs, guide community planning, and identify trends or patterns in service usage.

DSS coordinates this initiative and relies on volunteers and community partners to conduct surveys and visual counts. The Montgomery County team conducted their count on Jan. 22 and observed no unsheltered individuals, 12 individuals in dedicated shelters and 30 in temporary hotel/motel placements. The data collected is crucial for determining federal, state, and local funding to combat homelessness.

 “I want to thank the Department of Social Services and all volunteers for dedicating their time to ensure this critical effort was carried out,” Vroman said. “The data collected ensures we can make informed decisions and work towards lasting solutions to help individuals in need.”

“We would like to thank all our volunteers for their dedication and compassion to help identify people in need on a frigid night in January,” Commissioner of Health and Human Services Matthew Beck said. “Montgomery County is committed to provide emergency sheltering and focus on long term, housing first solutions. We have been very fortunate to have an excellent partnership with the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (NYS OTDA) and will continue to work to implement a continuum of services to help address the root cause of this crisis.”
