RIBBON CUTTING SLATED FOR NEW PUBLIC DEFENDER'S OFFICE AT THE HISTORIC COUNTY COURTHOUSE
WHAT: Montgomery County will celebrate the relocation of the Public Defender’s Office to the Historic County Courthouse. Thanks to a recent $1.1 million grant through the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services (ILS), the upstairs of the courthouse has been rehabilitated to create an office suite for the Public Defender. The Old Courthouse was built in 1836 when the county seat was removed from Johnstown to Fonda. This relocation both pays tribute to this place of historic legal significance in Montgomery County while simultaneously enhancing legal services for the people of Montgomery County.
